"Well-informed investors diversify because
they do not believe that investing is a form of entertainment."
Peter L. Bernstein in Against the Gods

Dear Investor:

For those of you new to investment opportunities in the arts please allow me to provide you with a brief introduction.

For some, if not many, art may considered to be quite the opposite of what Mr. Bernstein considers to be investing. It may well be entertainment. However, the arts, in all its forms may well be considered the greatest business in terms of human related productivities and is often touted only to be the second greatest wealth generator after war related activities! How wonderful were it to take first place. As such, art too, be it considered entertainment or not, requires investment both human and financial.

IAI has been working with locally and internationally under-represented artists in alignment with private and corporate investors with the objectives of promoting the arts from the region both nationally and internationally and giving the artists the opportunity of  furthering their careers. Each artist has a minimum of 15 years personal experience working as a professional artist.

Our objectives have taken us to fund in whole or in part several important profitable exhibitions, catalogues and international book publications over the past few years and we now have two opportunities which we would like to present to new investors. These are presented at the bottom of this page. Please read on and update yourself on art investments prior to seeing what is available today.

1. Why consider investing in an arts project?

An arts project, when suitably managed, can provide a better rate of return than most "safe" investments such as CDs and savings accounts. Also, since the project may be occurring in a different part of the world from where you are you may be able to take advantage of good exchange rate to improve your return during the course of the project and the preparation it requires or simply of the improved economic conditions prevailing there.

2. Isn't there inherently more risk involved with an arts investment?

Yes there is probably more risk involved with such an investment than with a CD, stock or bond but with that investment comes greater return and for those of you who are more "arts-inclined" there will also come a greater satisfaction from knowing that you were able to participate in a particular project and help the artist in building their career.

However, it is our job to ensure that all risks are controlled and mitigated to ensure the investor receives the projected or guaranteed return. First of all, when a professional person, be it artist or other commercial professional, has worked at his career supporting their family and is launching a new project, it is in their interest to ensure its success, not only artistically or culturally but since their livelihood depends on it then it must make money. As such, as you will see, these projects are not internet start-ups by 20 year old kids, or small business ventures that are in untested territory, but serious projects by professionals with track records who at this point in time require additional funding to ensure that they meet their professional and financial goals and requirements.

In essence your investment is trusted to IAI and all monies are controlled by IAI during each step of the project and not directly by the artist involved. We also maintain a close participation with the artist during the project to ensure that it is meeting anticipated schedules. (Yes, even artists have schedules, and perhaps surprisingly for some, many artists do take their passion and work with it during as assigned period (e.g., 9am - 5pm) because they also often have other commitments - like family and social or public events.)

In any case, the priority objective in investment management is to control risk. The more risk averse you are the more you should diversify. Most people do not own original art nor are their many opportunities to take part in an investments program like this one being offered. As such it is possible that the diversification into the arts will lower your overall portfolio risk.

3. What kind of returns are we talking about?

Depends on the project and the offer selected. often there are various ways of participating including opportunities where the immediate return is not financial. Please view each project and its details prior to deciding which is the best investment vehicle for you.
